Issue: Creating a Climate and Public Health program
Background: The intersection between climate change and public health is getting more and more attention as drought, forest fires, and extreme weather threaten New Mexico’s communities. To mitigate these problems, the state Department of Health is requesting $1.1 million to establish a Climate and Public Health program to help communities address public health challenges brought on by climate events. The DOH budget was recently submitted to the Governor’s office, as the administration works to outline its funding priorities for the next year.
Action Needed: Please contact Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s office either by phone or email form to express your support of this budget request.
What You Might Say: “I’m contacting the Governor to urge her to make the Department of Health’s budget request to create a Climate and Public Health program a high priority in her budget. Thank you.”
