Keynote speaker Ruth A. Etzel, MD, PhD, is an adjunct faculty member at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University in Washington, DC. She received her PhD in Epidemiology from the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a pioneer in studying the health effects of exposure to secondhand smoke among infants. Her work led to nationwide efforts in the US to reduce indoor exposures to tobacco, including the ban on smoking in U.S. airliners. Dr. Etzel is the founding editor of the influential book Pediatric Environmental Health (a 4th edition was published in early 2019).
